Journey #2 Begins – Heading North

Here are a few videos from the start of trip #2 on Connie, the 1989 Kawasaki EX500 I bought for $200 and drove across the United States. I’m heading north from Long Beach, CA with no particular destination in mind. The weather looks like it might get kind of nasty — should be quite an adventure!

Video – Coast to Coast on a $200 Motorcycle

This 14-minute video will give you an idea of some adventures I experienced while riding “Connie” (my $200 Kawasaki EX500 I bought in NY) across the United States on Trip #1. I captured all the video on a little handheld video camera – hope you enjoy!

A New Adventure Begins (Trip #2)

Connie

Today I walked up to Connie (the $200 1989 Kawasaki EX500 that got me from Long Beach, NY to Long Beach, CA) and she started right up after sitting idle outside for many weeks. It was as if she was waiting for the next journey to begin. With that, I went down to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and registered the bike in the state of California so we’re good to go.

The next journey begins right away. I will leave Long Beach, CA and travel north. My final destination? Unknown.

Track my progress via GPS and join me on the next adventure.

Introduction to the Trip

ny-beachThe plan was simple; I was going to ride from Long Beach New York to Long Beach Los Angeles, cheaply and alone. I wanted to prove that you didn’t need the latest bike or accessories in able to have an adventure of a lifetime and of course, do it with the freedom of 2 wheels. I was also going to try and raise some money for ‘Riders for Health’, if I could achieve all that while discovering parts of America that would be more than wonderful.

Just to make it a bit more interesting, mainly for myself, I threw in a few rules; just to make me suffer in one way or another. These were, buy a bike for $200 or less and ride it across the US using only normal roads, no Interstate or Highways. Sleep in a tent every night, use only a small map, no sat navigation, can’t shave or shower until the journey is complete and only buy fuel and food. Whatever the bike needed would have to come out of the $200 budget… if I hadn’t spent it all in one go that is…
